How to Drink Mad Moose: 3 Simple Ways to Enjoy It

One of the best things about Mad Moose is that you don't need to do anything to it. No shaker, no jigger, no recipe card. But if you're new to non-alcoholic whiskey and wondering how it's "supposed" to be drunk, here are three ways to pour it — from zero effort to slightly-more-effort-but-still-basically-zero.

1. Neat, in a proper glass

This is how we'd suggest trying Mad Moose Original the first time. Pour a measure into a rocks glass or a tumbler — whatever you'd use for a "real" whiskey — and let it sit for a minute before you sip. Letting it breathe opens up the aroma: vanilla, dried raisin, toasted wood, with that peat-honey-spice finish coming through on the palate.

This is the serve for slowing down. End of the day, a good book, a porch, a moment to yourself.

2. Over one big cube

If neat feels a little intense, drop in a single large ice cube — not a handful of small ones, which melt fast and water things down. One big cube chills the pour gently and rounds off the edges without diluting the flavour you're there for.

This works beautifully for both the Original and the Japanese-style, which is the more delicate of the two — oak, coconut, black pepper — and especially nice slightly chilled.

3. Ready-to-pour cocktail — zero mixing

If you want something that already is a cocktail, the Old Fashioned is pre-mixed and ready to go. Pour it over ice, add an orange twist if you're feeling fancy, and you've got a proper cocktail in the time it takes to open a bottle. No simple syrup, no bitters, no shaker.

It's the move when you're hosting and don't want to be the designated bartender all night.

A note on dietary details

A quick note if you're checking labels: the Original is plant-based, gluten-free (celiac safe) and made with no sugar added, at 15 calories per serving. The Japanese-style is also plant-based with no sugar added, at 10 calories per serving, but isn't gluten-free — we developed a barley malting and extraction process using local Canadian barley to get it closer to the real thing. The Old Fashioned is plant-based with a small amount of sugar (as the cocktail is traditionally prepared), also using that barley process and not gluten-free, at 20 calories per serving. All three are low-calorie — the exact numbers just vary by product.

‍ ‍

A note on temperature

All three are happy at room temperature or chilled — try both and see what you prefer. Like real whiskey, a bit of warmth opens up the aroma; a bit of chill mutes it slightly and can make for an easier sipping experience if you're new to the category.

Not sure where to start?

The 120mL single is the lowest-stakes way to try the Original before committing to a full bottle. Or grab the 3-bottle mix pack — Original, Old Fashioned, and Japanese-style — and run your own taste test.

FAQ

Do I need any mixers or tools? No — every Mad Moose product is designed to be enjoyed straight from the bottle, poured over ice if you like.

Should I drink it warm or cold? Either works. Room temperature brings out more aroma; chilled is easier for newcomers. Try both.

Is the Old Fashioned really ready to drink as-is? Yes — it's pre-mixed. Pour over ice and you're done.

Which product is best for a first try? The Original 750mL is the flagship, but the 120mL single is a great low-commitment way to test it first.
